Brinell takes its name from the Brinell hardness scale, created in 1900 by Johan August Brinell to measure resistance to deformation. The name fits: this is a slab serif that holds its shape, pushes back, and doesn't soften where it shouldn't.

The design draws from classic industrial slabs like Rockwell, but the team at Latinotype updated the proportions and details — removing some expected serifs, flattening the contrast, and introducing a cleaner overall drawing. Curves carry more geometry. Numbers drop their serifs where they naturally would have had them. One stylistic set introduces a character change that shifts the tone without breaking the system. The result is a slab with industrial DNA and a voice of its own.

What keeps it from feeling cold is the same thing that makes it interesting: those intentional inconsistencies — the terminal on the /a, the slightly off-rule details — give Brinell a warmth that precise, corrected type usually loses. Firm and mechanical on the surface. Human underneath.

Eight weights from ExtraLight to Black, each with matching italics. 512 glyphs. Case-sensitive forms, standard ligatures, fractions, ordinals, superscript.

A slab, built to resist with human touch.
